Steam OS! - The new Linux based Operating System

As we’ve been working on bringing Steam to the living room, we’ve come to the conclusion that the environment best suited to delivering value to customers is an operating system built around Steam itself.

Yes you heard right, VALVE's expanding Universe was indeed something involving Linux and Open Source! Valve hopes to bring back PC gaming to life by using a Linux- Based, Open Source Operating System.

"SteamOS combines the rock-solid architecture of Linux with a gaming experience built for the big screen."

We've heard Linux Officials claiming that Linux and Open Source are the future of Gaming, despite their minute usage worldwide.

The code for SteamOS will be made freely available for developers who want to launch their gaming hardware.

Valve's new SteamOS machine is likely to be called Steam-Box

This, in addition to IBM's and Intel's efforts could mean a great boost for the Linux Operating System. Afterall, Intel said that it's the Linux Year!

  2. You do have a point. However, I would like to point out that this time Windows got it all wrong with their new OS, and great investments are being done in Linux.
